Zebra 2 - Pad Template
In this video Zebra 2 – Pad Template I show you how to create a basic pad template. The template is great on its own but also useful as a starting point for more advanced pad patch creation.
We start of by creating 2 oscillators and selecting the Quad option and De-tuning the oscillators from themselves and each other to give a full rich Zebra 2 – Pad Template starting point.
We then add a filter (LP) which is where we create most of the movement for the pad to take shape.
Using the amplitude envelope and a new envelope (ENV2) to modulate the filter cutoff and the resonance we begin to create the well known pad shaped sound.
At this point in Zebra 2 – Pad Template we need to start thinking about the envelopes (both amp and filter) settings. Manipulating the Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release parameters of both envelopes we begin to shape the basic pad into something a little more familiar and realize the importance of these features on this type of sound.
Finally we add effects like delay, reverb and some E.Q just to round the sound of but to also have these tools available for us in later, more complex pad creation patches.
So in Zebra 2 – Pad Creation we lay down a strong fundamental template which, in the future, will allow us to create many different pads quickly and effectively from (almost) scratch and free up more time for actual music creation instead of sound design.
