Why bass is so important ? Why it is omnipresent on some tracks and almost unheard of on some others ?

Certainly because bass correctly combined with the drums gives the track all of it’s groove.

It makes you dance ! It makes you move ! It makes you feel the music.

What would be the funk without bass ? What would be the disco without bass ? What would be techno without bass ?

Despite the huge importance of bass, some music styles can make their way without it like classical music, concrete music, ambient, world music, … At least on some very selected tracks.
