Latency in your setup ?
Many musicians and producers suffers from “latency” !
It’s a strange disease hurting both peoples and instruments that can ruin a recording or a performance.
Latency is present in both MIDI and audio recording.
There are ways to reduce latency by tweaking your softwares and it’s usually quite easy.
The more complex side of latency is when there is hardware involved.
As an example, if you want to send MIDI notes from a computer to an external synth and record the synth audio output in the same computer, latency will be a problem you’ll have to deal with.
Presonus is offering a well written paper about audio latency that covers every technical aspects on important points like :
– Drivers
– Buffers
– Converters
The paper is not only about Presonus products and should be a great source of informations for many.
