Either he created his original sound from sampling and / or synthesis, Kevin Sanderson along Derrick May and Juan Atkins is at the origin of a musical movement that changed the face of the electronic music world.
If Detroit was not what it was in the end of the eighties, an industrial city left by companies where unemployment spread widely and where abandoned houses and factories in ruins became the norm, maybe we would not have today this sometimes deep and melancholic kind of techno that Detroit has been renowned for.
A bit later, in the same environment, a much harder Detroit techno sound was born. The sound of Underground Resistance…
Mike Banks, Jeff Mills and Robert Hood influenced their productions with the desolate and harsh aspect of the city.
They used sampling as well on many productions.
Another proof if needed that sampling is an art form in itself.
And, coupled with synthesis, one can feed his music production with the best of both worlds.
