Custom Transition Effect Rack - traktor tutorial
In this video we will learn to set up and execute a custom effect rack, used to help create epic transitions and sounds.
To begin, we will enter settings, go over to the effects tab, and ensure all the effects are in Insert Mode, that all four are active, and all are set to group. Next, in the effects preselection area, enable all of the following effects. Filter, Filter 92, Gater, Iceverb, Beatslicer, Wormhole, Zzurp, Granuphase, Polarwind, and Event horizon. These are the effects I will use in this video, but many if not all of these can be interchanged.
We will be using all four effect units and each should be set up like so.
Effect Unit 1: Initial Sound Capture Unit
Filter, Beat Slicer, Beat Slicer
Effect Unit 2: Distortion Unit
Zzurp, Granular Phase, Freezeverb
Effect Unit 3: Deep, transformative texture Unit
Polarwind, Wormholes, Event Horizon
Effect Unit 4: Post effects
Gater, Gater, Filter
This is a subtractive effect rack meaning, we will activate all of the effects then introduce the track. We will slowly subtract the dry/wet until we are left with our track, unprocessed. This is my favorite technique for creating really lush, transitions and this technique works really during minimal parts of a set, where you may want to create added interest or texture.
This effect rack is also modular, so try switching around some of the effects and see what type of combinations you can find. I personally like using Beatmashers in place of the beat slicers, in Unit 1, or using Filer LFOs in place of the effects in unit 3. They key is finding cool combinations to really make your sets unique.
