Tips On How To Make A Pre Drop Lead in Sylenth1
In this tutorial, Echo Sound Works will show you how to make a great pre drop lead in Sylenth1. It’s great for a lot of genres of EDM!
If you’ve ever had a hard time making your pre drop leads big, but not so big that they overpower your drop, this tutorial is for you!
I will often error on the cautious side, initially making the lead small because I can alway layer in another sound to compliment it. Typically, I will try to make an interesting sound that can carry the section before the drop. However, just because a sound is interesting doesn’t mean it will be able to cut through a mix.
The pre drop lead in Sylenth1 is a good example of an interesting sound that doesn’t quite cut through the mix. So I layered it with a very simple sound that is just one instance of a saw wave that is quite plucky. It’s a sound that I have used numerous times and it works really well.
The actual pre drop lead in Sylenth1 is made up using all 4 Oscillators in Sylenth. One oscillator is generating a little noise. It’s important to make sure PART A is using a Lowpass filter and PART B a Bandpass. Otherwise your sound won’t be very upfront at all!
I killed off most of the sound in Master Filter section because I wanted to reintroduce the Cut Off using the MOD ENV1. By using the MOD ENVELOPES to control the Cut Off, I have control over the ADSR of the sound which is very powerful.
