• A brand new look: Addictive Drums 2 now has a new stunning, sleek design. It’s the Addictive Drums 2 you know and love, but more visually appealing.
• New “Trig Gate” effect: The new Trig Gate lets you mangle your drum sound and still get perfect gate action on every drum hit. No need to dial in threshold settings – the gate is perfectly triggered by the internal midi drum notes.
• New compressor “Boost” mode: Make your drums hit harder with the click of a button. The new “Boost” mode adds a new level of thump and attack to your beats, fueled by an XLN-approved multiband compression tailored for drums.
• Even better EQ: The EQ now has clear real-time visual feedback of the signal across all frequencies. All settings are clearly visible for easier and more precise adjustments.
• The v2.5 update is fully backwards compatible. All material created in previous versions will work and sound as intended: presets, tweaks, mix settings, MIDI beats and other settings. The update works with all Addictive Drums 2 expansions (ADpaks, MIDIpaks and Kitpiece paks).

XLN Audio wanted to make sure that with just a few clicks, our users could add world-class drums to their productions, and have full control over them, almost as if they’d been at the recording session themselves. To begin with, they carefully hand-selected each kit, piece by piece, to get just the right sound. Then XLN Audio found just the right space to record each kit. A studio with the right mix of acoustics, gear, drummer and engineers to coax the best out of it, make it sing, and capture its essence.

Every kit was meticulously recorded with a variety of strokes sampled for each piece. Snares were recorded from above, and below. Kicks from the front, and from the rear near the beater. The sound coming back from the live room was recorded separately on stereo mics. All these signals are combined in the software to give you amazingly real live-sounding drums. If you want to hear these drums at their very best, the ADpak comes with a host of presets configured for specific drum sounds, or you can take full control and control every aspect of the individual drums. Dial-up the room noise for some stadium rock epicness. Tune the toms to vibe with your keys. Turn up the overheads, add distortion, or reverb, change the attack…the possibilities are literally endless.

Custom Kit – Sonor Designer

For a modern sound, we’ve gone all counterintuitive and used the oldest drum company we could find. Sonor knows a thing or two about drum kits, after all, they‘ve been making them since 1875. By the mid-1990s they’d perfected their art in the form of the tight, customizable, punchy sounding Designer Series kit featuring kick, snare, and no less than five toms for when you really want to get your Phil Collins on. We teamed it up with 14″ Sabian AAX Studio Hi-Hats, two rides, three splashes, a crash, and a cowbell. It’s like having a world-class drummer in your DAW, ready to bash out midi beats with pop perfection.

Custom Kit – Tama Starclassic

To put it simply, this kit rocks! The Studio Rock ADpak is based around a Japan-made Tama Starclassic kit, a world-class set of drums that can lend itself to pretty much any style of music. XLN added the extra option of a slightly shallower Pearl kick as well as a Pearl Signature Ferrone Snare in addition to the 14″ Starclassic one.

XLN Audio tested a load of cymbals, and eventually ended up including three different Sabian Crashes (17, 18 &19″), a 22″ Paiste 3000 Ride, a little 10″ Sabian HHX Legacy Splash, an 18″ Sabian AAX China Cymbal for bright, crisp, explosive trashy hits, and a set of 14″ Paiste Dark Crisp Hi-Hats. Oh, and an LP Rock Ridge Rider Cowbell, for when you need more Cowbell.
