ABOUT YOUR TUTOR
TAETRO is an electronic music artist, producer, songwriter, mentor, video creator and teacher living just south of Boston, MA.
TAETRO holds a BA in Music and has been creating original music with Ableton Live for over 10 years. He also creates live electronic music performances and tutorials on YouTube.
Most importantly, he has a talent and passion for explaining how to create music using software in a way that everybody can understand.
Lesson 01 : Setup
Get an introduction to the course and the initial setup of your project in Ableton Live so you’re ready to follow along with subsequent videos.
Lesson 02 : Chords
A basic introduction to chords and the music theory behind them. The first important step in building chords is choosing the right polyphonic sound. In this lesson, you learn how to create and play a chord progression and how to record it so you can start creating your own loops. By the end of the video you will have a basic understanding of Triads, how to build a chord and lay down a 4-bar chord progression – making the start of a track!
Lesson 03 : Drums
How to create a drum rack and construct a beat with an intro to finger drumming. Drum patterns can be created a couple different ways in Ableton Live – this lesson breaks down the process of laying down a beat to its very core.
Take a look at playing drums in live and drawing patterns within the grid. By the end of the video you will know how to set up a drum rack, lay down a loop, use quantization and hear how the components of the track are coming together.
Lesson 04 : Bass Line
Your bass line is one of the most important elements of your track. In this lesson you’ll get some idea starters to build two bass lines, one that is very basic and follows your initial chord progression, and another that adds a bit more movement. By the end of this lesson you’ll know how to record a bass loop and how to build on your chord progression so you can go it alone long after the course is done.
Lesson 05 : Melody
Many elements go into creating a catchy melody that works in your track. We’ll create a basic melody focusing on melodic direction, movement, and the call & response technique. By the end of this video you’ll be able to start thinking about melodic content that matches and brings to life the other elements of your track. By this point you’ll be wanting to mess around with your own ideas but stick with it and follow along through to the next lesson.
Lesson 06 : Mixing & Arrangement
Now that you’ve created all these musical ideas, it’s time to put them into arrangement view where we will start structuring and finishing our track with the addition of some final mixing techniques. By the end of this lesson you will have a basic understanding of mixing concepts and a solid foundation for taking a track to completion.
