A Buchla for ten euros ?
Well, maybe not truly a Buchla but an awesome Max 4 Live instrument replicating the Buchla 296e Spectral Processor.
At 4599 dollars, the Buchla 296e Spectral Processor is not a module for everyone.
Some peoples may ask why Buchla is so expansive ? Simply because they use very unique synthesis techniques and components in their modules.
Encoder Audio develop Max 4 Live devices that reflects and reproduce these US West coast synthesis legends named Buchla 100, 200, 200e…
Their catalogue is already strong of a few releases and the latest one is “Spectral”.
Spektral is a dual 16 channel morphing bandpass spectral processor, highly influenced by the Buchla spectral processor units.
Almost every knob/button/selector could be automated from Live.
Our softwares are made on a very old MacBook Pro (from 2007 😉 ), running Mac OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5, Ableton Live 9.5 and Max 7.0.6. There are no special externals, extra objects used in our devices, they should work on any up-to-date system, without problems.
Reproductions or emulations like these are very interesting because first they allow access to synthesis techniques usually hard to play with due to their rarity, they allow a first approach and understanding of these different techniques proper to West coast synthesizers and they’ll maybe drives a few new customers enjoying a lot this kind of synthesis and wish to work on the original modules.
