Simple Risers using the Cicada waveform in NI Massive
Massive has an incredible selection of FX and Chord waveforms built in standard. One of the waveforms, Cicada, can create all sorts of neat sounds. A versatile riser is just one of those sounds.
To create a riser using the Cicada waveform in Massive, simply load the Cicada waveform into Oscillator 1, adjust the Wt-Position to your liking, change the “Spectrum” to “Bend +” and adjust the intensity parameter all the way to the left. We will now use an envelope to modulate the Intensity of Oscillator 1, thus creating our sweep sound.
Next we will open up 2 Env, and slide both the Attack and Level of the attack almost the entire way to the right of their dials. We can then adjust the Decay to just passed the halfway point and the Level of the decay the entire way up the dial. Now we will simply map 2 Env to the Intensity of Oscillator 1, and adjust the amount of which the envelope modulates the oscillator’s intensity so that it is modulating it the entire length of the dial. THIS will create the rising sweep effect that we are looking for. To adjust the LENGTH of the sweep, you can adjust the “Attack” of 2 Envelope (or the envelope that you used to modulate the intensity of oscillator 1). It’s that simple, so now add FX and tweak some knobs to personalize this sound, throw it into your productions, or maybe resample it and use it as a sample. The choice is yours.
