YouTube user TheBassTutorial has put together this helpful little NI Massive video tutorial for all of your looking to polish up your tracks a bit with some added sounds and effects to really get your audience engaged. Artists like Rusko and Noisia are taking advantage of little embellishments like this squelchy sound to provide a signature in recent releases. These sounds are fun and easy to make, not to mention great for learning more about sound design within Massive.
Three wavetables, a filter and some straight-line LFO modulation is what make this sound work, but it’s the dimension ezpander that gives it the space needed to really feel right. If you want o make this sound your own, you may want to try adding some noise (perhaps something metallic in nature) for a slightly less digital feel. To really change things up you can experiment with some sample & hold and/or subtle distortion effects. This kind of sound also does well with added amp modeling, which can provide a lot of original voice.
