Recreating Seven Lions' Tyven Pluck
In this tutorial, we look at using NI Massive to recreate the pluck used by Seven Lions in his song Tyven!
In this tutorial, NovvaOfficial shows you how to recreate the pluck used by Seven Lion’s in his song Tyven. This all NI Massive Tyven Pluck sounds just like the original used by Seven Lions. The best part is, that it only takes a couple of minutes to recreate!
Start the NI Massive Tyven Pluck by activating all 3 Oscillators. OSC1 should be give a Pulse-Saw PWM, with all the parameters cranks hard right. OSC2 should be given a Square-Saw II wavetable with it’s Wt-position set halfway, the Intensity set to about 60%, and the Amp on full. OSC3 should be given a Woody wavetable, with both the Wt-position and Amp set to full, but the Intensity set to about 70%. Raise the pitch of all three oscillators to 0.12 and set LFO5 to modulate each pitch by 0.24. OSC1 should be routed through Filter 1, while OSC2 and OSC3 should be routed to Filter 2.
Set Filter 1 to a Lowpass 4 Filter. Turn down the Cutoff, and set the Resonance to about 20%. Set Envelope 1 to modulate the Cutoff of Filter 1. Raising the Cutoff from 0 to about 20%. You may also want to add a Macro Control to help control the Cutoff of the NI Massive Tyven Pluck.
Next, activate the Noise Oscillator and set it to Bright. Boost the Color to full, and set the amp to about 30%. In the video he activates Insert 1 and Insert 2, assigning them a Hard Clipper and a Bitcrusher, respectively, then adds a Macro to control both Dry/Wets. You can experiment with this setup, but depending on how you wish to use the NI Massive Tyven Pluck it may not be needed. Remember if you activated Insert 2, you will need to change the routing structure of the patch under the Routing Tab.
FX1 should be assigned a Reverb. The Dry/Wet is set to about 25%, the Size is set to about 65%, and Intensity and Color are set to Max. For FX2, assign a Delay Synced with the Dry/Wet set to about 35%, Damp at full, and FeedBack set to about 55%. The NI Massive Tyven Pluck’s EQ should be set with the Low Shelf at 50%, Boost at 60%, Frequency at 65%, and the High Shelf at about 55%.
That’s it for the NI Massive Tyven Pluck. We hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, and hopefully you have gained some useful knowledge that you can apply to your own sonic creations.
