[aside title=”Nice Kick!“] The rave bass drum is the heartbeat of the party, literally![/aside]
The rave scene has influenced the dance club scene for years now, and there has been a constant wave of change running through it. But one thing that is present is the classic rave bass sound, pumping along and carrying the songs into each other throughout the night.
Finding the right shape and modulation balance of your two controlling envelopes is the key to really getting the sound you are after. It is also one of the first places to look at if you want to change things up slightly throughout your song. Automation in your DAW if perfect for this!
This basic rave sound can easily be used as a template for different kick sounds in the same style. For instance, change up the secondary filter, add reverb or dimension expander to create more depth or reverse the envelope modulation on the cutoff of the main filter. All of these things will work well with this sound as will countless other variations. Just play around with it a bit and remember that through experimentation comes great innovation.
