Make A Beautiful One Oscillator Lead in Massive
In this tutorial learn how to make a beautiful one oscillator lead in Massive that’s perfect for multiple genres like electro, house and dubstep.
I don’t know what it is about this sound, but this one oscillator lead in Massive just seems to work in a mix. I think it rides that fine line of being big, but not taking up too much space in the context of a mix.
It goes without saying that this one oscillator lead in Massive is using only one oscillator. I used the VA PWM wavetable, but you could swap that out for another one to fit your needs. Beyond that, remember these key tips and tricks to help make the sound thicker.
First, I used some bright noise to give the effect that the sound is thicker.
Second, and probably most importantly, to make any one oscillator sound in Massive sound thick and alive you need to introduce an element of expressiveness into the programming. I modulated the cutoff filter off Filter 2 using the Velocity Macro. I also applied the same Macro to the LFO.

Third, using the proper effects can make all the difference to a one oscillator sound in Massive. I used the Delay Sync and the Reverb to help fill out the sound in the stereo field.
