[aside title=”Now That’s Sound Design!“] Good knowledge, brilliant macro programming and free-form jamming is a recipe for sonic success![/aside]
Sometimes the best sounds come out of a totally organic jam session, as this drone bass example did. Simple, catchy and incredibly flexible, this type of sound can be used in such a wide range of music that it’s almost ridiculous. As he mentioned in the original notes over on his YouTube channel NizmoTutorials you should try rocking this with a nice sub bass under it. If you head over there to check out the rest of his stuff, you can grab this preset as a free download and find links to other sounds and some of his social profiles, as well.
Combining three wavetables not normally used together ends up creating a very cool sound on its own, but then add to that some phasing through the Modulation OSC, a scream filter and a dimension expander and you have the beginnings of something even better. Intelligent macro programming provides the flexibilty mentioned earlier, and some subtle LFO action really adds a certain kind of movement and development that rounds it all out. All in all, this is a great example of how to quickly create a sound, and with very little effort, begin to shape and mold it with NI Massive until it is something special.
