NI Massive Deadmau5 Aural Psynapse Pluck Synth Tutorial
A few things about this video tutorial before jumping right into it. There is no spoken instruction in this lesson, so you may need to pause the video periodically to follow along. The first couple minutes of the video is actually showing various parameter settings within Ableton Live. These can easily be replicated in any DAW, so Ableton Live is by no means required to successfully recreate this sound. We tend not to discriminate against videos, and their creators, for having less resources to work with, or bells and whistles featured as long as the content is solid and the sounds are good. This sound is a good one and it can also be quickly transformed into your own sound with some very simple changes. This makes it a good tutorial to watch and learn from.
It starts out with a default Square-Saw I wavetable loaded into all three of the main oscillators. The Pitch value for both OSC1 and OSC2 is set to 12.00, while the pitch value for OSC3 is kept at 0.00. Each oscillator has a different set up in regards to Wt-position, Intensity and Amp levels, and all three are routed directly to the Filter1 panel. A Lowpass4 filter is loaded into the Filter1 panel, and the Cutoff parameter is modulated by an envelope. The envelope just mentioned is set up on the 1Env tab and is programmed to have a simple pluck curve with a short attack, low decay, no sustain and long release. Add some Reverb, via the FX1 tab, and this sound is complete!
