Modulating a Modulator to Make a 32 Step Arp Part 1
Johnny’s back with another series this month. In this tutorial learn how to create a 32 step arp sequence by modulating a modulator.
Whether you know it or not, Massive is capable of arppregiated sequences. It’s not as straightforward as some software synths arp sections, but in this tutorial Johnny shows you how to create a 32 step arp pattern by modulating a modulator.
If you click on any LFO tab in Massive and choose the stepper setting, what you’re looking at is a way to create arps and sequences. However, you will quickly notice that there are only 16 steps in any given performance tab and in many cases, a 16 step arp sequence will seem too short in a song that has any tempo to it. The way around the 16 step limitation is to first create two step sequences in two separate LFO’s, like LFO tabs 5 and 6 for instance, and then you can use another LFO to modulate both sequences by basically telling Massive when to start one sequence and when to start the next. Kind of like an On/Off switch.
Check out the video to take an in depth look on how this is done and stay tuned for next week’s video!
