Making a High Pitched NI Massive Scream Synth
This easy to follow tutorial shares one way to make this style of high pitched synth popular in music genres such as dubstep and complextro right now. An NI Massive scream synth like this can be made a few different ways, but this approach is rather unique in that it depends upon the Scream filter more than anything else. Once you finish recreating the sound yourself, you can try experimenting with using different wavetables and insert effects to really make it your own. Some people prefer to keep only the high end presence in a sound like this so getting it to sit in a mix is an easier process. But with the low end support it is a rather unique approach to this popular style of synth.
Start out by loading a Herby wavetable into OSC1 and set the Wt-position to the far left and the Intensity knob to about 1/3 the way up. This sound is then run through a Scream filter. A modulation envelope is set up and assigned to control the Scream knob on this filter, providing the right pitch and delivery. With this method of making an NI Massive scream synth you are limited in a couple of ways. If you want it to deliver a variety of notes you can either do as he suggests in the video and create multiple instances of the synth in your project, each with it’s own settings. Or you can simplify things a bit and automate the Scream parameter settings in your DAW to control the necessary changes over time. This second option is going to require less CPU and will probably make the most sense for most people.
