Make The Karanda Krank Square Lead in Massive

Square leads can be refreshing to the ear. A lot of leads in the EDM world are very saw based, but not the Krank square lead. If you haven’t heard the original track you can check it out here: KARANDA KRANK

First, Johnny stacks two Oscillators together both using variations of a square wave. Don’t forget to check Restart Via gate fore a more consistent tone!

To get the snappiness of the Krank square lead, Johnny modulates the pitch of his Oscillators using an envelope with a short attack time and a sharp decay. He also drives the sound a little bit with some distortion in Massive.

The actual lead itself is most likely a few sounds layered together. You won’t be able to get the whole sound with just one instance of Massive. What is perceived as the lead in the original track is a blend between a snappy square lead some saws making up the chords.

Finally, Johnny throws on some third party FX to taste to make the sound a little more present and thick.
