Learn How To Make a Sublime EDM Lead In Massive
In this tutorial, learn how to make a sublime EDM lead in Massive that’s perfect for chords, breakdowns and melodic sections.
Most leads are described as “powerful”, “huge” or any other adjective that implies big. Don’t get me wrong, that’s a great way to explain a lot of lead sounds, but not the one is this tutorial. This one isn’t your typical type of “big”, but it does have a large quality when it’s in the mix, especially in a section with vocals. I’ve always found that one of the hardest balances to strike is having a simple, yet convincing lead that doesn’t detract from the vocals. I think that’s where this EDM lead in Massive comes into play.
There are two key points to take away from the tutorial that you can apply to your own sounds. First, creating a short decaying envelope in Env1 to modulate the pitch of your oscillators is a great way to add a presence to the attack of your sound. Second, using a custom envelope to control/modulate the depth of the vibrato is a great way to add depth to your sound.
