Make a Huge Hip Hop Brass Synth in Massive
In this tutorial, Echo Sound Works will show you how to create a Hip Hop brass synth in Massive. It’s a great sound for those Dirty South bangers!
This Hip Hop brass synth in Massive is a good example of how you can use a synth to achieve sounds that resemble their real world counterparts.
I used all three Oscillators in Massive because brass sounds are fairly complex harmonically. I used a Square Saw II wave in OSC 1 and blended that with a DIGI I and Sin Square I wavetables. The DIGI I is adding some rich top end.
The envelope shapes are very important to the overall sound. I used a custom envelope to modulate the Cut Off of Filter One to create a more open and bright sound. I used a longer attack time and bumped up the release to mimic what actually happens in a physical brass instrument.
Finally, the EQ can really help shape the Hip Hop brass synth in Massive. I probably used the EQ more for this sound than any other I’ve done. I cut and boosted a good amount of frequencies.
