Emulating the Moog Bass stab sound within NI Massive
Most of us have heard of the famous Moog synthesizer, and most of us know of the ever popular Moog bass stab / pluck sound which is extremely easy to get using a Moog synth. Well that sound is also easy to achieve within Massive as well.
Starting off, we will select a Saw wave for Oscillator 1 and a Sine wave for Oscillator 2. Turn the AMP down on Oscillator 2 and turn the pitch down by 2 octaves (or 24 semitones). Now we will add a “Lowpass 4” filter and modulate the lowpass filter carefully using an envelope. Be sure to adjust the “Resonance” the entire way down on Filter 1 before proceeding.
Open up 1 Env’s tab and decrease the attack while increasing the level of the attack the entire way up. Adjust the Decay to slightly below the halfway point and the level of the decay the entire way down. We will then Map 1 Env to the Cutoff of Filter 1 and set the amount of which 1 env modulates the cut off the ENTIRE length of the dial. Now you will create a similar envelope with 2 Env and modulate the volume of the second oscillator to add a Sub bass pluck / stab to your sound. The amount of which the Amp of Oscillator 2 is modulated is entirely up to your liking. Have fun with it.
