Design an EDM Massive Electro Bass in Minutes
In this tutorial, learn how to create a very digital Massive electro bass in just minutes! It’s a great midrange bass for EDM.
Some wavetables in Massive can sound “analog” and some can sound very digital. In this tutorial, Johnny uses the Scrap Yard wavetable to create a digital sounding Massive electro bass.
Massive is great for making those midrange basses because of some of the wavetables that are included. You really only have to use one oscillator to get the sound you’re after. The most important step in Massive would be to modulate your filter Cut Off with an envelope that has a short attack and a quicker decay time to make the sound more percussive.
Most of the sound design for a mid range bass will actually come in the processing stage. Johnny adds some distortion and dimension expander to help make the Massive electro bass come to life.
The distortion is adding some useful harmonic content and the dimension expander is helping to fill out the stereo field a little bit better. That’s important because if you’re using a bass as a lead, it needs to fill out a lot of the frequencies and space in a mix.
