Creating a Formant Pluck Preset in NI Massive
We all know that Massive is capable of easily creating formant sounds using almost ANY waveform that can be found within the synth, so let’s use a formant waveform and turn it into a plucky sound.
For starters we can take any waveform and choose the “Formant” option under the “Spectrum” menu. Following that, we will add a “Lowpass 4” filter and create a filter envelope using 1 Env and modulating the cutoff of filter 1 to create that pluck sound. Be sure to drop the resonance down on your Filter before modulating the Cutoff parameter.
By inserting additional effects and inserts, we can both fatten the sound up and create more character to the formant pluck sound. Certain things such as bitcrushers, hardclippers, dimension expanders, and flangers can add a lot of extra sizzle to your formant sound.
