Bass FX Growl in NI Massive
Sometimes all you need is a little, OK a BIG growl bass FX to toss into the mix. This nice NI Massive video tutorial shows you how to get it done right.
There are a whole lot of Massive tutorials out there right now showing you how to make a growl bass. Some of them are incredible, but this one is a little different in that it is focused on just the impact of the growl as an effect rather than an instrument. After all, there are times when a sound hits much harder when it’s only used in a couple of places rather than throughout an entire song. YouTube ExothermStudios user takes his time in building and sharing a very cool growl bass in this video, which just keeps up with his reputation of knocking out killer tutorials on a consistent basis.
The brilliant programming of the macro controls for this sound allow you to manipulate the sound in a number of different ways, whether it be for a live performance with a MIDI controller or a studio recording session and a lot of automation. The core of the sound is generated by three oscillators and the Modulation OSC, it runs through a Daft filter and then it’s blown up with some reverb and a dimension expander. It’s the modulation of the pitch values of the main oscillators by an LFO that give it the characteristic movement though. A Sine Shaper is inserted towards the end to help accentuate some of the sonic elements and wrap it up.
In the end, you have a super FX that you can use in a number of different ways. And it’s something you can have some fun with while tweaking on the fly to add a little organic development in your music. Offering both support and spice at the same time, this sound is a winner!
