The Future Of MIDI Controllers

With traditional keyboard MIDI controllers being used as early as the 80s, there is much speculation into the future of MIDI. With the evergrowing sophistication of software synths, will MIDI controllers parallel the same progression?

An interesting point that Lippold Haken (Haken Audio) makes is that MIDI keyboards make it…well…too easy. Musicians can play a sampled instrument with impeccable technique and articulation without the tireless hours of practice. While we acknowledge this as a convenience, understandably so, Haken feels that we have “lost something.”

Many folks, a tad narrow-minded in my opinion, still regard electronic music as being inauthentic. Perhaps the evolution of MIDI interfaces will change this perception. Read more here.
