Listen To Aphex Twin's New AI Patch Generator
Aphex Twin has collaborated with multi-disciplinary organization, foam, to create a custom patch editor called Midimutant that uses AI to turn sounds from the Yamaha DX7 into evolving, otherworldy sounds.
Equipped only with a microphone input and midi output, the midimutant runs on a Raspberry Pi and uses artificial evolution to grow new sounds on hardware synthesisers that mimic an example sound you provide.
You can hear a demo of what the Midimutant sounds like below. You can also hear more samples via Soundcloud.
While Aphex Twin has a tendency to stray away from the public spotlight, it’s always exciting to see new projects of his come to the surface. We hope to see more like this in the near future!
