Gamelan Orchestra Powered By AI
In an article from Hyperallergic, we get introduced to the Slendotron, a mechanized Gamelan orchestra powered exclusively by artificial intelligence. Developed by Detroit-based art collective, Apetechnology, the machine attempts to emulate the organic sounds of the orchestra in a humanistic fashion.
What makes this machine interesting is that every note is generated by a synthetic means, making use of the pentatonic scales derived from the Javanese musical form. In addition, the mallets are being run through a circuit board, being generated by the randomized algorithms sent to the computer.
