How to get louder 808's
808s are those deep, low-frequency drums that have become a staple in the production of today’s hip hop, dance and electronic music. As producers, creating the perfect 808 sound is crucial to reach the desired low frequency that impacts the sound so much. Achieving a loud and booming 808 is easy when you have the right gear and know the right techniques. Let’s check out a few tips to help you get loud 808s.
Firstly, when processing the808 sound start by cleaning it with a EQ. Remove the low frequency content that is not necessary. It should be clean but it should not sound too processed. Then, start experimenting with your compressor to make the 808 louder. This can be achieved in two ways. First, use a brick-wall limiter. This will instantly make the signal louder and it will sound polished. Alternatively, you can use a multi-band compressor to adjust the levels of individual frequencies in the 808 bass sound. This also helps make the signal louder.
Secondly, work on the reverb. Reverb is probably the most important tool to add space and depth to your drums, and 808s are no different. Experiment with the reverb settings, adjusting the time and amount of reverb to make the 808 sound bigger. Also, add a touch of delay to the 808. This will help create the atmosphere needed to make the 808s blend with the mix.
Lastly, experiment. Every mix is different and every song needs different levels of volume.if you find that your 808 is still not loud enough, try layering different sounds. You can also try adding distortion and saturation to your sound. These tools will help you get the loud and thumping 808s you want for your mix.
Making loud and thumping 808s is never a one-size-fits-all creative process. To create the perfect 808s for any mix, experiment with different techniques and find the best combination that works for you. With the right gear and expertise, you can be sure to create an amazing 808 sound for your next track.
