Sample Manipulation and Pad Management in Maschine
This is a great lesson getting the most out of your sounds and making performing with Maschine easier through sample manipulation and clever pad management!
When it comes to recording and performing with Maschine there are many things you can do to improve your efficiency and make everything a bit easier in general. But to do this properly there needs to be a bit of foresight and work done up front. This brilliant tutorial video covers some nice tips and tricks to help you get more out of the sounds you have through some basic sample manipulation and using your pad assignments intelligently. These are some of the first steps to really opening up the potential of Maschine!
First, it is always very important to start with high quality sounds and to have an idea of what you want to accomplish before you begin. From here its as simple as deciding what kinds of variations of your sounds you will most likely be using the most in your project or performance. As shown in the video, you can easily assign a simple 808 kick drum to one pad and, after some quick sample manipulation, assign a secondary version of that same sound to another sound. Now there is no need to tweak any parameters on-the-fly during you recording or performance for this sound.
You can take this one step further and combine two or more sounds into a short sequence which is triggered when a single pad is engaged. Starting again with some simple sample manipulation or synth tweaking, you can add some effects that work nicely if you feel it is needed, you can then stack a few sounds together on a single pad or assign certain sounds to a single choke group. What you end up doing will definitely depend upon your project and what you are wanting to accomplish. The important thing to take away here is the idea of repurposing and utilizing your sound and the various features of Maschine to work smarter not harder, doing more with less effort when it actually comes time to perform your routine.
