Polyrhythm in Maschine, Part 1 - Hemiola Fills
Maschine’s pattern-based sequencer makes using hemiola and other polyrhythms easy. This tutorial shares how to make it happen!
Maschine’s pattern-based sequencer makes using hemiola (three against two) and other polyrhythms easy. In this tutorial, we demonstrate using both vertical and horizontal hemiola to create interesting fills for a typical break. Using basic features like Maschine’s own step sequencer and note repeat functions, one can quickly sequence or play in musically interesting fills.
Future tutorials on using polyrhythm and cross-rhythm in Maschine will explore performance techniques using swing in extreme settings to create cross-rhythms and hemiola, continuing our exploration of using Maschine swing in extreme settings to create different rhythms. We will also explore Maschine’s unique ability to apply quantization and swing in a give-and-take relationship, and how to use Maschine to create dynamic polyrhythms in a live performance.
