Maschine Tutorial - Creating a Performance Kit, Pt 2 - Bass and Melody
In the second part of this series, I add a bassline and melody to the performance kit.
Part One: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNRlDD18ROg
Previously, I showed how to layer instruments and create a progression of chord samples. In this video, I add to those chords with additional melodic elements.
First, I record the bass. I show how to match the bassline to the chords and then how to record three different patterns. These patterns keep the notes in an easily editable format; when we render down to WAV, things get locked down. Once the bass patterns are recorded, I use internal sampling to create three bass samples in the performance kit.
Next, I move on to the synth lead melody. You can sequence a melody any way you like – from the pads, from a connected keyboard, or using the chords and arpeggiator like I did. Just like I did for the chords and bass, I record three patterns for three different synth lead sounds, each one matching the corresponding chord and bass samples. After adding some FX, I record the lead patterns as samples.
Now that things are sounding full and developed, I will move on to drums in the next video.
