As a musician and as a producer, practice is essential to develop performance skills and production techniques. Skills with the sampler and pads are just as important as time in the woodshed is for guitarists, singers or drummers. After all, the sampler and the keyboard are just as much an instrument as bass or guitar, especially in modern production styles.
Pros spend just as much time and practice as other musicians developing their skills with the sampler, and working on finger drumming, cue point triggers, sampling and other techniques that are the foundation of today’s electronic and hip hop music production.
Melodics is a training program for finger drumming and cue point drumming – designed to develop the wide range of skills and technique necessary in modern production across a variety of styles and genres. While Melodics isn’t free – you can either pay monthly, annually or buy a lifetime membership – they do offer the first 20 lessons at no cost, and at various times of the year they open up additional content for everyone as well.
In this tutorial, ADSR Instructor Stephen Ellestad walks you through the basics of the software to give you a sense of what it’s all about as a tool for developing your technical production and performance skills with pads and finger drumming. If you’re looking for a unique tool to develop or advance these skills and improve your productions, you’ll want to watch this video.
