Double Patterns to Create Grooves Quickly in Maschine
The Maschine sequencer’s “DOUBLE” shortcut is a fast a powerful way to build grooves quickly and to produce longer patterns.
In this tutorial, using the Maschine 2 sequencer’s “DOUBLE” feature is covered.
Simply pressing PATTERN and then DOUBLE will double the length of the selected pattern, along with all of its contents. Doing so creates a pattern whose second half is identical to the first.
With a very small tweak, a new pattern, twice the length of the original, is created.
When using the double feature, keep in mind how many unique bars of music the pattern contains. Adding to the duplicated content every time the double feature is used can quickly and easily create very natural sounding fills.
Doubled patterns sound very consistent, but can often sound monotonous. Using double always results in a pattern double it’s current length, so the pattern length – and the number of identical measures – grows exponentially!
With just a little input, the double feature can make a whole verse out of a single one-bar loop. This allows us to work faster, but not harder!
