Adding instruments to a sampled beat in Maschine
In this video for Maschine, learn some tips that relate to adding instruments to your sampled beats.
Structuring your tracks around samples is a great way to get inspiration. However, things can start to feel limited when it comes time to develop and arrange your project. In this video, I talk about how I add instruments on top of my existing sampled content.
First, I show that simple sequences are easiest to work with. By repeating notes that you know are in-line with the sample melody, you can ensure your instruments sit nicely in the mix. Also try using octaves or giving melodies some space here and there.
Next, I talk about some mixing tips to bring everything together. In some cases, I will add effects on the sample to “open up” room for the instruments. This is most often accomplished by using EQ. I move on to some effects on the instruments themselves, mainly reverb, to further mix everything together. Doing a quick master with some bus compression and limiting will provide a little bit of glue to the overall track.
