In this video tutorial, we will show you to Send MIDI to Kontakt and Receive Audio in Reason 7 using Reason’s External MIDI Instrument and SoundFlower.

Since Reason 7 introduced the ability to record, many have adopted it as their DAW of choice. But Reason has a huge limitation of not being able to host VST effects and instruments. But with the External MIDI Instrument in Reason and SoundFlower, you can work around this limitation.

Conclusion

Reason not being able to host VST effects or instruments is a big show stopper in my opinion, but some people still want to use it a DAW. While this work around will allow you to run VSTi’s that have Stand-Alone apps and Virtual MIDI ports, there are some limitations.

Also SoundFlower is only available for Mac, but Windows users can use the Virtual Audio Cable which has similar functionality.
