The Basics - Frequency Modulation from the Ground Up in FM8
This video tutorial provides a basic education of Frequency Modulation and the FM8 synth. Though it is geared towards beginning users, it is a great watch for all experience levels of FM8.
In this video, YouTube user SeamlessR shares his knowledge of Frequency Modulation and the FM8 SoftSynth. He gives an insightful demonstration, and shares some quick techniques that will help get new users on there way. Though this video is geared towards newer users, it’s a decent watch that will surely help trigger some lost fundamentals.
The concept behind FM8, and Frequency Modulation Synthesis in general, is that a modulating frequency is used to transform a carrier signal by modulating the carrier’s frequency. In Layman’s terms, Frequency Modulation Synthesis changes the pitch of an existing signal via modulation. Frequency Modulation Synthesis has been used in a number of highly regarded hardware synthesizers over the years, including the Yamaha DX-7, but the fact that FM8 and Frequency Modulation can now be easily manipulated and edited through softare is amazing!
