Learn How To Create a Techno Arp Hook in FM8

In this tutorial, Johnny will show you how to create a Techno arp hook in FM8 as well as some tips in tricks for FM8’s arpeggiator.

One of FM8’s most powerful sound design tool is it’s arpeggiator. Johnny uses it to create a Techno arp hook in FM8. This progression is perfect for the hook of your Techno tune!

The Techno arp hook in FM8 is made up of 5 stacked sawtooth waveforms and one Square waveform to help add some low end beef to the sound. If you try to recreate the sound, make sure you dial in the Ratio settings properly to get that Techno feel.

In the arpeggiator section, loop the the arp to 16 steps and make sure you select the KeySync! Johnny uses the last 8 steps of the arpeggiator sequence to introduce the melody, or the hook of the arp. You could of course change those settings to fit your song.

The FM8 arpeggiator has accent boxes that can accentuate any step in your sequence. Using those can make your arp much more expressive. It’s always a good idea to explore that feature!
