How to Make a Modulating Vowel Synth Using FM8
In this tutorial, watch as YouTube user Multiplier walks us through how to create a modulating vowel synth sound using FM8.
Vowels are in. Have you ever heard of a consonant sound? I haven’t. Multiplier created a very unique vowel synth sound for his EP titled Waffle House. It’s kind of a lead, but you could still use it as a bass.
My favorite part of this tutorial is how Multiplier himself said there was no rhyme or reason as to why he did what he did in the FM Matrix and even what waveforms he loaded into the operators. This is proof that some of the best sounds are made by accident. It is however, important to use a specific effect to get the vowel synth to turn out properly.
Multiplier used the Talkwah effect and then checked the mod wheel box to create the vowel synth and it’s talking effect. Modulating the mod wheel is pretty easy in any DAW so this becomes a great way to add some depth and movement to the sound.
So dive into those effects and always keep in the back of your mind, can I modulate this?
