Learn How To Use FM8 as an Insert Effect
In this tutorial, learn how to use FM8 as an insert effect in your DAW so you can use it as a processing tool on your other tracks.
Using FM8 as an insert effect isn’t as hard as it sounds!
You might be asking what is an insert effect and how it applies to FM8. An insert effect is just any effect inserted into your signal flow. So any time you use your DAW’s reverb, you are using an insert effect. Some synths, like FM8, allow you to use them as an insert effect.
For instance, you could load up an instance of Massive in your DAW and then load up FM8 where you usually insert your compressors or reverbs etc.
You might also be asking why would you want do this. There are a couple useful reasons to use FM8 as an insert effect. First, you can use all of the effects in FM8 on any other sound source. I have used the Talk Wah and the Chorus/Delay before on Massive sounds to add a little FM8 flavor to them. Using the Talk Wah on a Massive wobble can be a powerful combination. You can even use the FM Matrix to affect the sound.
This will most often create pretty out there and crazy effects.
