Learn How To Make A Chill Out Bass in FM8
In this tutorial, Johnny will show you how to create a Chill Out bass in FM8. It’s a great sound for creating sequences in Chill Out and Electro.
This Chill Out bass in FM8 uses 6 Operators (A to F) and they are all routed to the output filter. Johnny uses a good mix of waveforms in the Operators.
- Operator A: 10th Formant
- Operator B: 1+4
- Operator C: 2nd Formant
- Operator D: Sawtooth
- Operator E: Sine
- Operator F: Sawtooth
By applying some value to the Analog slider in the Master tab, you create a really thick effect.Don’t forget to play around with the Offset values. You can achieve some great Chorus like effects by applying small amounts to the Operators.
Johnny applies a bit of Resonance and opens up the Cut Off in the Operator Z tab. To get that Chill Out bass in FM8, make the envelope of Operator Z more plucky by brining back the attack and the decay.
To make the Chill Out bass in FM8 a little less digital sounding, Johnny pulls up an instance of Valhalla DSP Uber Mod. It’s a great delay plugin and if you’re not familiar with that company, check them out. They offer up some of the best reverb and delay plugins out there and they only cost $50!
