Learn How to Create a Trap Vocal Lead in FM8
In this tutorial learn how to quickly create a trap vocal lead in FM8 that also works well with moombathon, dubstep and even complextro.
With FM8’s great formant waveforms it is pretty easy to quickly make trap vocal leads. You really only need a few operators to pull off the sound and some effects to help beef up the sound.
Using the pan slider in the master tab is a great way to plan ahead for your mix. If you are making a trap song chances are you are going to want a trap vocal lead spread a little bit outside of the middle of the stereo spectrum because that is where your kick and sub bass will be. As with most trap leads, using generous amounts of portamento or glide really helps pull the sound together.
Without a doubt, the most important step of making a trap vocal lead in FM8 like this one is tweaking the envelope in the pitch operator. Creating a shape that has a sharp attack and a short decay helps add a vocal element to the sound, which is what we are after.
