Cause and Effect Sound Design in the FM Matrix Part 3
In part three of this month’s tutorial series, Johnny digs even deeper into the FM matrix offering up some great pro tips for FM8 users.
This months FM8 series by Johnny has been a little meaty. He’s been diving right into the heart of FM8 by explaining the FM matrix. One of the most common questions people have with FM8 is how to know what the operators are actually doing when you’re clicking around with them. If you haven’t seen Part 1 and Part 2 check them out.
Have you ever wondered what those little boxes in the FM matrix under the routing options are for (See pic below, the very last row of boxes in the FM matrix)
They let you pan the output of the operator you link them too which is a pretty cool feature. Johnny goes over how to use these to create an auto panning effect which can be very helpful with rhythmic patches as well as pads.
Hopefully these last three video tutorials have given you a better understanding of the FM matrix and how it can effect the overall qualities of a sound.
