One of the only knocks against FM synthesis is that it can sound too digital. It is often described as being cold and sterile, but Johnny will show you how to warm things up a bit with this Techno bass in FM8. He will also show you how to add some third party processing to make things even thicker!
Adding the Chorus effect in FM8 is a great way to add some analog warmth to a sound without using any third party processing.
Johnny uses some really helpful effects to make the Techno bass in FM8 warmer and thicker. Even if you don’t have these exact plugins, there are a lot of similar choices that will help make any sound have more analog warmth.
Johnny uses to Slate Digital plugins to help make the Techno bass in FM8 sound less digital. One plugin is an analog channel emulation and the other is a tape saturation plugin. Both of these plugins will help add some enharmonic warmth and even though the overall affect is subtle, it can really help in a mix.
